Video loss from USB-C Lipstick Camera

Edited

The GPX Mobile device supports USB-C cameras for live streaming.
However, users may encounter video signal drops due to vibration or loose connections, particularly in high-vibration situations such as open-wheel vehicles.
This article addresses the potential causes and provides solutions to ensure a stable connection.

Common Issues and Troubleshooting

1. Video Drops During Operation

  • Cause: Vibration may loosen the USB-C connection.

  • Solution:

    • Inspect the USB-C cable and connector for signs of wear or damage.

    • Ensure the USB-C cable is securely plugged into both the camera and the GPX Mobile device.

2. Intermittent Video Signal

  • Cause: Poor contact between the USB-C connector and port.

  • Solution:

    • Connect and disconnect the USB-C camera to a laptop or other USB-C port. Due to different manufacturing tolerances, some USB ports may improve the spacing on pins and subsequently improve the physical contact made between the camera and GPX Mobile device.

    • Clean the USB-C port on both the camera and GPX Mobile using a non-abrasive brush or compressed air.

    • Secure the cable using adhesive clips or cable ties to prevent movement during operation.

3. Persistent Video Loss

  • Cause: Internal hardware fault or loose internal components.

  • Solution:

    • If troubleshooting the cable and port does not resolve the issue, contact GPX Support for hardware diagnostics, replacement or repair options.

Preventative Measures

To minimize the risk of USB-C connection issues:

  1. Secure Cable Routing:

    • Use cable ties or velcro to minimize cable movement and stress on the USB-C port.

  2. Regular Inspections:

    • Periodically check the cable and port for wear and damage.

  3. Environmental Protection:

    • Avoid exposing the USB-C connection to excessive dust, debris, moisture or RF interference from in-car radios.

Best Practices for Motorsports Applications

In high-vibration settings such as open-wheel vehicles, take the following additional precautions:

  • Use anti-vibration mounts for the GPX Mobile device and camera.

  • Test the setup thoroughly before events to identify potential issues in advance.
